How does CoolSculpting work?

In the 1970s, two dermatologists described a phenomenon called "popsicle panniculitis" where by toddlers got dimples in their cheeks where their skin was exposed to cold. Fast forward several years and the concept of "cryolipolysis" was born. The Coolsculpting technology uses controlled cooling mechanisms to target and kill stubborn fat cells. The killed cells are then resorbed by your body over the next few weeks and do not return, therefore creating a permanent, long-lasting result.

Am I a candidate for Coolsculpting?

Coolsculpting is designed to treat stubborn un-wanted fat in targeted areas. It is not a weight loss treatment. Good candidates have noticeable pockets of fat in certain areas that they want to get rid of that do not respond to diet and exercise. It is a good non-surgical alternative to liposuction. If you think Coolsculpting may be right for you, call to schedule a consult with our provider.

What does the Coolsculpting treatment feel like, and what are the common side effects?

During the treatment, you may experience pulling, tugging, pinching, intense cold, tingling and stinging, and cramps aches. These feelings subside as the area becomes numb. Following the treatment, typical side effects include redness, swelling, bruising, firmness, tingling and stinging, and aching. These are temporary and usually resolve within a few days to weeks. Rare more serious side effects may occur, and as with any medical treatments, consult your dermatologist with any concerns.

What is the cost, and how many treatments will I need?

The cost is based on the size of the area being treated and the number of treatments needed to reach your specific goals. Most patients will choose to treat multiple body areas, and the cost typically ranges from $2000 - $4000 for their individualized treatment plan. You can call to schedule a consult with our CoolSculpting provider to create a customized plan tailored to your needs and budget.

Is there any downtime with CoolSculpting?

There is minimal downtime with CoolSculpting treatments. The procedure is non-surgical, so you can return to your normal activities of daily living immediately. There is usually no need for time off from work.
